[PIO] Decision of the State Aid Control Authority on the Audiovisual Industry Promotion Scheme

The State Aid Control Authority Ms Stella Michailidou issued, on 11 August 2023, a Decision in relation to the Aid Measure entitled "Audiovisual Industry Promotion Project".

The annual budget of the Measure amounts to €25,000,000.00 and will run until 31 December 2026.

The competent authority for the application and implementation of the Measure is the Ministry of Finance.

The objective of the Measure is to promote the audiovisual industry and to promote the Republic of Cyprus as a filming country, within the framework of the government policy implemented through development, financial and fiscal incentives. The measure also aims to promote Cyprus as a country of audiovisual filming, to promote Cyprus as a tourist destination, to attract capital inflows, to increase the activities of domestic audiovisual production companies and, consequently, to increase employment in the audiovisual sector.

The forms of Audiovisual Works or Films that may be compatible with the Project may include:

  1. Cinematographic films - Feature films
  2. Television films (drama films)
  3. Television series or mini-series
  4. Digital and/or analogue animated film
  5. Creative documentary
  6. Reality-type programmes which directly or indirectly promote the Republic of Cyprus and its culture.

The Decision has been posted on the website of the State Aid Control Office.

The Union legal basis for the measure of the above Decision is the "Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014 of 17 June 2014 declaring certain categories of aid compatible with the internal market in application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty" (OJ L 167, 20.6.2023, p. 1).

This Measure was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic on 18 August 2023.
