The Council of Ministers approved the proposal of the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Ms Marilena Evangelou, for a purchase by the Department of Social Integration of People with Disabilities (TKEAA) of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, five buildings to be used as residences for adults with disabilities, to support people with disabilities to live integrated in the community, an action included in the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The residences will be erected by the COAG, two in Kokkinotrimithia and three in Polemidia, and will be purchased by TKEAA.

The aim, Ms Evangelou said, is to create small structures in the community, thus avoiding institutionalisation and achieving inclusion through the provision of quality and upgraded support services.

The decision aims to strengthen existing 24-hour care structures for adults with disabilities, but also to reassure at the same time the concern of every parent of a person with a disability about their future after adulthood.

As Ms Evangelou said, there are already dozens of 24-hour care structures in operation, as well as dozens of individual programmes.

"However, we have recognised that the increased needs require an increase," she said.
