The Forestry Department informs the public that the natural disaster that struck the city of Limassol on 14/02 caused serious damage to two green areas in Fassouri where around one hundred (100) eucalyptus trees were uprooted, on private and state land and in Dasoudi where around thirty (30) acacia trees were uprooted along the beach and serious damage was caused to the trunks of thirty-nine (39) eucalyptus trees.

At the green area in Forest for safety reasons, the broken and uprooted acacia trees were removed and the eucalyptus trees were pruned as stipulated in the urban tree pruning manual, removing the broken branches to reduce the risk of causing an accident. It is noted that no acacia tree that was not affected by the disaster has been felled.

Regarding the green space in the Pheasant Forest, the removal of all uprooted trees is planned soon.

It should be noted that within two weeks the Forestry Department will proceed with tree planting in the area where the acacia trees were destroyed.
