[PIO] Cyprus receives €20.9 million as advance payment for REPowerEU

Finance Minister Makis Keraynos welcomes today's announcement by the European Commission to pay Cyprus an amount of €20.9 million from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism as an advance for the implementation of the REPowerEU measures.

Cyprus has secured an amount of €104 million. to finance the new REPowerEU Capital under the national Recovery and Resilience Plan "Cyprus - Tomorrow" for the implementation of additional reforms and new or upgraded incentive schemes for energy upgrading as well as for further promotion of electromobility with a horizon of 2026.

To date, an amount of €263 million has been received from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.

To date, an amount of €263 million has been received from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. and with the completion of the required checks now being carried out by the EU institutions on the request for payment of the 2nd and 3rd tranches submitted by the Republic of Cyprus on 15 December 2023, a further €152.2 million will be collected. The total receipts (€415 million), from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism from 2021 until the first quarter of 2024, are as follows. [*]with the achievement of the first 14 milestones, the first tranche of €85 million was disbursed in 2022; [*]with the approval of the amendment of the Plan and the incorporation of the new REPowerEU Chapter, an additional advance of €21 million was received today; and [*]with the completion of the 38 milestones of the 2nd and 3rd tranche and after the EU audits are completed, the disbursement of €152.2 million is expected within the first quarter of 2024.

This will be followed in 2024 by the submission of two payment requests for the 4th and 5th tranches to collect €197 million. Makis Kerynos thanks the European Commission for the close cooperation, all partners, as well as the Implementing Agencies of our National Plan and assures that the Government will continue its efforts to achieve all targets and milestones on time and on the basis of the agreed timetables.
