The Deputy Ministry of Culture is proud to announce the participation of the Cyprus Crafts Service in the 5th edition of the International Crafts Film Exhibition, which takes place on Saturday 25 November in Barcelona.
Cyprus participates for the first time in this International Exhibition with the film "Basketweaving" which is part of a collective of films under the general title #craftingcyprus, written and directed by Filep Motwary.
The #craftingcyprus films were created with the support of the Press and Information Office with the aim of highlighting traditional and contemporary crafts as perhaps the most tangible version of intangible cultural heritage and to reconnect with the beauty of Cypriot techniques and their creators, both at home and abroad.
In order to encourage craftspeople to preserve and promote their exceptional craftsmanship Motwary touches on the importance of education, synergy, and passing on the skills of the craft to others.
The Cypriot entry has been selected by the World Craft Council Europe to participate in the International Exhibition along with 13 other unpublished audiovisual productions from national, regional or professional organisations, focusing on the world of crafts and starring craftspeople. The audiovisual productions will be presented at the Barcelona Design Museum as well as on the subscription platform FILMIN until the beginning of the new year.
The Deputy Ministry of Culture considers the participation of Cyprus in this International Exhibition to be important. Through this participation, on the one hand, the traditional and contemporary Cypriot craftsmanship, which is part of the intangible cultural heritage of Cyprus, is highlighted on the international stage and on the other hand, the talented and creative production of Cypriot audiovisual works is promoted and consolidated at an international level.
