Cyprus had the 3rd lowest decrease in passenger flights among the member states of the European Union in December. According to data published by Eurostat, in December 2021, the number of passenger flights in the EU increased by 130% compared to the same period in 2020, although still below the levels prevailing before the coronavirus pandemic.

More specifically, Cyprus ranks 3rd lowest with a -9% decrease (Croatia -6% and Greece -8%), with the Czech Republic and Austria recording the largest decrease at -41%.

Overall, based on Eurostat data, compared to 2019, in 2021 the country showing the most signs of recovery in terms of the number of passenger flights was Greece with -29%, with Cyprus and Luxembourg following with -38% and -39%, respectively. Ireland showed the least signs of recovery with -64%, followed by Slovenia and the Czech Republic with -62%.

The data presented by Eurostat are an encouraging development for our country, as it appears that Cyprus remains close to its goal of a gradual and full recovery to pre-pandemic levels.
