[PIO] CV of the new Environment Commissioner Ms Antonia Theodosiou

Ms. Antonia Theodosiou studied at the Technical University of Aachen in Germany and obtained a Master's degree in Architecture, specializing in ecological construction and restoration of architectural heritage monuments.

She attended a one-year course in Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany. He also attended a course for two years in the postgraduate course in Historic Monument Restoration at Frederik University in Cyprus.

Professional:

  1. He runs an office in Nicosia for architectural and environmental studies.
  2. She served for five years as Project Manager of the Akamas Sustainable Development Management Plan at the Department of Environment for the Ministries of Environment and Interior.
  3. She put together a Sustainable Development Plan for the communities of Akama and promoted public benefit projects and actions, which have synergy with the protection objectives of the Natura 2000-Akama Peninsula sites.
  4. Cooperated with the National Commission of UNESCO for the inclusion of the Art of Xerolithia in the National and World Lists of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and participated as a UNESCO expert in relevant educational programs.
  5. He worked for two years at the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO), in the tourism programme in traditional buildings and on environmental issues, and attended the School of Tourist Guides.
  6. Participated in European projects on environmental issues and the European Ecological Network Natura2000, on culture and energy issues.

He received national and international awards for architectural and landscape projects.

  1. Award of the Association of Civil Engineers and Architects - Alexis Theodosiades for the restoration of listed buildings.
  2. Prize from Europa Nostra for the restoration of a listed building and the incorporation of ancient tombs into it.
  3. Commendation from the Council of Europe for the restoration of a traditional man-made rural landscape in a NATURA2000 area.
  4. Three awards from the European Commission ICOMOS for the restoration of listed buildings and ancient monuments.
  5. Representation of Cyprus at the Biennale of Art and Architecture in Italy, with a project for the restoration of a listed building and the incorporation of ancient tombs.
  6. Local Government Award for the museological curatorship of the Akamas Regional Museum of Rural Life and Tradition - Handicraft/ Handicraft Training Centre in Druscia, whose activities won an award from the European Network of Cultural Tourism.

He is a member of national and international Associations and Councils. [*]- Member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Energy Office (CEA). [*]- Member of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Information, Culture and Sustainable Development Office (MIO-ECSDE). [*]- Member of the Monuments and Traditional Constructions Committee of the Cyprus Chamber of Science and Technology (ETEK).

  2. President of the Cyprus Petra Foundation in Petra.
  3. He was for many years President of the Cyprus Federation of Environmental and Ecological Organisations and is an active member of environmental and cultural organisations.

He was a founding member of the Ecologists' Movement in 1996 and was involved in the registration of the European Green Party. In 2001 she stood as a candidate in the parliamentary elections with the Ecologist Movement and subsequently became active outside the Movement, remaining in close cooperation. In 2021 she stood in the parliamentary elections as an associated candidate of the Ecologists' Movement - Citizens' Co-operation. She is currently a member of the Central Committee of the Ecologists' Movement - Citizens' Partnership, the Cyprus Committee and the Acamas Committee.

He is the author of publications on traditional architecture, man-made landscape, dry stone structures, nature and culture of Akamas Peninsula as follows. This concerns the traditional architecture, the cultural landscape, the natural environment and the physiognomy of the settlements of Akamas. Publication funding: A.G. Leventis Foundation. Presentation of the guide and exhibition at a conference in the framework of the ICOMOS International Monuments and Sites Day.
