[PIO] Customary meeting of the Speaker of the Parliament with the President of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts

Today, February 7, 2022, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Anita Demetriou, held a formal meeting with the President of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, Mr. Andreas Demetriou and the Vice President of the Academy, Mrs. Efrosini Igoumenidou Rizopoulou.

During the meeting, the Speaker of the Parliament had the opportunity to be informed by the President of the highest intellectual institution of Cyprus about the election of the founding members on 10 April 2019, which marked the opening of the Academy, its mission, activities and objectives, as well as on a number of other individual issues related to the Academy's housing in a permanent and consistent with its role, its achieved financial autonomy, as well as on issues of sufficient staffing to enable it to carry out its work unhindered.

For her part, the Speaker of the Parliament praised the establishment and operation of the Academy and its expected contribution in matters of science, letters and arts, as well as economic and political sciences, referring to the institution of the Parliament to be established in the near future, namely the Foundation for Parliamentarianism and Participatory Democracy, submitted proposals for cooperation and two-way communication between the two institutions at various levels, which the President of the Academy accepted with great pleasure, pledging to assist the Parliament in the objectives pursued by the future institution.
