[PIO] Credentials of the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the United States of America

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the United States of America, Mr.Evangelos Savva, presented his credentials to the President of the United States of America, Mr.Joseph R. Biden, on September 15, 2023, at an official ceremony held at the White House.

During the presentation of the credentials, Mr. Ambassador conveyed the warm greetings of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Christodoulides, to the President of the United States and praised the high level of Cyprus-US relations as they have developed in recent years in areas such as security and defense, energy, technology and science, cultural heritage, as well as at the level of civil society. He also noted that the bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and the USA promotes stability and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Referring to the Cyprus issue, Mr. Savva spoke about the President's initiative to resume negotiations to find a just and viable solution, and thanked President Biden both for the US support for this initiative and for their commitment to the agreed framework for the resolution of the Cyprus problem, as stipulated by the UN Security Council resolutions.

Finally, the Ambassador underlined the determination of the President of the Republic and the Government to further substantially strengthen bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United States, with a view to consolidating a strategic partnership.

In his written reaction, the US President described as historic the progress observed in bilateral relations with the Republic of Cyprus, referring to his personal friendship with Cyprus. At the same time, he noted, with particular satisfaction, the fact that the two countries are keen to jointly seize the emerging opportunities for close cooperation on a range of issues.

On the Cyprus issue, President Biden reaffirmed the strong US commitment to the goal of finding a comprehensive solution of a bizonal bicommunal federation leading to the reunification of Cyprus.
