A meeting with a delegation of the Confederation of Cyprus Workers (CEC), under the General Organizer of the Guild Mr. Panikos Argyrides was held today by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Ms. Marilena Evangelou.
During the meeting, Ms Evangelou outlined the actions of the Deputy Ministry in relation to the Modernisation and Upgrading of the Minimum Guaranteed Income (MGA), focusing on the activation of the Social Intervention Mechanism, which aims to integrate MGA beneficiaries either into the labour market or to activate them in society through training programmes or through psychosocial support programmes.
Mr. Argyrides expressed the intention of the FCC to cooperate with the Deputy Ministry in the direction of training and the integration of EEP beneficiaries in the labour market. Specifically, it was agreed to set up a working group, in which officials of the Ministry of State and representatives of the BCC will participate, in order to target specific groups of beneficiaries of the EEK according to the needs of the labour market and their qualifications.
In cooperation with the BCC, specific training programmes will be designed and beneficiaries will be paired with employers.
The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare is already cooperating, within the framework of the Social Intervention Mechanism for EEU beneficiaries, with the Public Employment Service, the Productivity Centre and the Human Resources Development Authority of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, as well as with the State Training Institutes of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, while efforts are ongoing to expand cooperation with other institutions, including trade unions and employers' organisations.
During the meeting with the delegation of the ACE, issues related to benefit policy and the reconciliation of work and family life were also discussed.
