The Environment Department informs the public that it is continuing its campaign of inspections to verify compliance with construction and demolition waste management obligations, in the framework of which it carries out inspections and audits at construction sites on a nationwide basis.
It is emphasised that in accordance with the Waste (Construction and Demolition Waste Management) Regulations 2023 (CPR.112/20123), producers of Construction and Demolition Waste (C&DW)/contractors who do not maintain an Individual C&DW Management System are required to comply with a number of obligations, such as participating in a collective C&DW management system and ensuring that the waste they produce is disposed of at licensed C&DW management facilities with which they maintain a written cooperation agreement for its proper management. They must also, prior to the commencement of work, inform the Waste Management Collective Scheme and the Director of the Environment Department of the commencement of work and prepare and keep on site an updated Waste Management Plan which has been checked and stamped by the Waste Management Collective Scheme to which they belong.
In case of non-compliance, the inspectors/inspectors of the Department shall take the measures provided for by law, which include an out-of-court settlement of up to €4.000 and/or criminal prosecution.
