Yesterday, Monday, 18 September 2023, the bilateral meetings and contacts of Foreign Minister Dr Konstantinos Kobos began in New York, on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 78th UN General Assembly.
In a meeting with his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic, the two Ministers reviewed Cyprus-Serbia relations, expressing their readiness to further deepen cooperation between the two countries. They also discussed the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and the efforts our side is making to resume negotiations. The Serbian Foreign Minister reaffirmed Serbia's long-standing support to the Republic of Cyprus in relation to the Cyprus problem and in favour of respect for international legitimacy. He also reaffirmed Cyprus' support for Serbia's accession course and the deepening of its relations with the EU, as well as the Republic of Cyprus' principled position in relation to Kosovo.
During Mr. Kobos' meeting with the Foreign Minister of Liechtenstein, Ms. Dominique Hasler, the prospect of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and their cooperation within international organizations was discussed. Mr. Kombos also briefed his counterpart on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and the provocative actions of the occupying authorities against UNFICYP in the buffer zone in the Pyla area.
The Foreign Minister also participated in the high-level meeting on the Middle East peace process, which was co-organised by Saudi Arabia, the Arab League and the EU, in cooperation with Egypt and Jordan. He took part in the regular informal meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the European Union. The meeting discussed the situation in the Sahel region, developments in relation to Russia's ongoing aggression in Ukraine, as well as a number of other current international issues.
Finally, the Foreign Minister attended an event organised by the German Chancellor. Olaf Scholz and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Germany's accession to the UN.
