The European Union Contact Committee is the autonomous, independent and non-political assembly of the heads of the European Court of Auditors and the supreme audit institutions (SAIs) of the 27 Member States of the European Union (EU) and provides a forum for discussing and addressing issues of common interest to the EU.

The Contact Committee, which our Office currently chairs, issued on 22.11.2023 the Statement below, in relation to the constitutional role, mandate and independence of the Supreme Audit Institution of Poland.

Our Office, as the Chair of the Committee, prepared the draft and coordinated the whole process of submitting comments and final approval of the Statement by all Members.

As a Supreme Audit Institution that itself faces significant challenges and obstacles to its independence, we consider the replication, by the Development Initiative of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), to be very important, the need to meet the criteria for the independence of Supreme Audit Institutions as set out in the relevant Lima and Mexico Declarations, as well as the position of the Contact Committee that these Declarations are part of the acquis communautaire and should be respected by all Member States of the European Union.
