[PIO] Conference on "Energy Transition - Storage and Hydrogen Technologies" organized by the Parliament

The House of Representatives' conference on "Energy Transition - Storage and Hydrogen Technologies" was successfully held today, Friday, 14 January, at the Filoxenia Conference Centre, which was organized at the initiative of the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism and by decision of the Committee, as part of the mobilization of all actors of the energy sector in the great effort of the green transition.

At the conference, which was attended in physical presence, but also online by current and former MPs, government officials, academics, as well as legal and natural persons whose activities are related to the issue of energy transition, Mr. Kostas Kostas conveyed the greetings of the Speaker of the House of Representatives Ms. Anita Demetriou. This was followed by a taped briefing of delegates on the decisions of the global leaders' summit at the United Nations Climate Change Conference by a representative of the European Union Commissioner for Energy, Ms Kadri Simson. The central theme of the first part of the conference was the European dimension of the energy transition and future technologies, which was developed online by Dr Maria Georgiadou, Senior Expert at the European Commission (Clean Energy Transition, DG Research & Innovation), Dr Stavros Papathanasiou, Professor in the Electric Power Sector of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, and Dr Nikolaos Liberopoulos, Project Manager at the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking.

The second part of the conference opened with a taped presentation of Cyprus' Green Transition Strategy by the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Ms. Natasha Pilidou. In person, Dr Andreas Poullikkas, Chairman of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority, Mr Stavros Stavrinos, Director of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator, Mr Tasos Grigoriou, Director of the Distribution System Operator - A.E.K., Dr Kostas Papanicolas, Professor, President of the Cyprus Institute and Advisor to the President of the Republic on Climate Change, and Dr Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism and Special Representative for Civil Society Participation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OASC,

This was followed by a productive discussion and questions to the speakers, which opened the dialogue on the issue of Cyprus' green transition. The conference ended with the announcement of the codified conclusions by Dr Kyriakos Hatzigiannis.
