The 66th World Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA/CPA) concluded yesterday afternoon in Ghana, with the participation of MPs Mr. The plenary session of the General Assembly yesterday addressed the issue of the change of the legal status of the Association and the possible transfer of the headquarters of the organisation outside the United Kingdom.

In his intervention, Mr Damianou expressed support for the efforts made by the International Secretariat of the Association for a positive outcome of the issue, which, as he pointed out, has been plaguing the CSA for thirty years, on the basis of the principles of transparency and good administration, so that the work and activities of the Association can continue unhindered.
The General Assembly ratified the reappointment of the General Secretary of the Association, Mr. Stephen Twigg for a second and final term to be completed in 2028. The Commonwealth Parliamentarian Awards for 2023 were also presented. The Parliamentarian of the Year was awarded to the Speaker of the Zambian Parliament Ms Nelly Mutti. Parliamentarians from India, Canada and the Isle of Man were also awarded for their action and work in specific areas.
On the sidelines of the Conference, the Cypriot delegation had a formal meeting with the Speakers of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of the New South Wales Regional Parliament, Mr.Mr. Ben Franklin and Mr. Greg Piper, respectively, where the next World Conference will be hosted.
