The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs.Anita Demetriou, held a meeting today, Thursday, 16 May 2024, with a delegation of the Cyprus Shipowners' Association. The meeting was attended by the President of the Cyprus Shipowners' Association, Mr. Andreas Hatzigiannis, one of its Vice Presidents, Mr. Polis Hatzigiannou and the Director General, Mr. Michalis Filippou.
In the context of this meeting, the problems and challenges of Cypriot shipping, the policies of the European Union in relation to pollutants, the future of shipping, the need to strengthen the Cypriot register, general issues of the local and wider economy, as well as the prospects created for Cypriot shipping in particular and the Cypriot economy in general by the resolution of the Cyprus problem for the benefit of both communities were discussed.
The Speaker of the Parliament underlined the great importance that the state attaches to the further development of the Cypriot shipping sector and expressed her and the House's readiness to assist in every possible way in the work of the Cyprus Shipowners' Association.
