The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women, Mrs. Achilleas Demetriades, in his capacity as national advisor for Cyprus, to discuss issues concerning the existing mechanisms for the enforcement of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in the Member States. The discussion takes place in the framework of the Council of Europe's multinational study "Support to efficient domestic capacity for the execution of ECtHR Judgements (Phase1)" which aims at collecting data from Member States for the evaluation of the existing mechanisms for the execution of ECtHR judgements. During the meeting, an exchange of views took place regarding the existing practices of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women regarding the monitoring of decisions issued by the ECHR and in particular those relating to human rights violations by the Republic of Cyprus.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place regarding the existing practices of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women regarding decisions issued by the ECtHR and in particular those relating to human rights violations by the Republic of Cyprus. In addition, suggestions were exchanged on the adoption of good practices for the purpose of more effective monitoring of the implementation process of ECtHR judgments, including the institutionalisation and establishment by the Committee of internal mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of these judgments.
