[PIO] Clarification on referral to physiotherapy services by Orthopaedists and Personal Doctors

The Health Insurance Organisation informs beneficiaries that access to physiotherapy services continues to be granted after the issuance of a referral by an attending physician, who, after the necessary clinical examination, determines whether the beneficiary's health condition is included in the physiotherapy services covered by the GHS.

In addition, the Agency has also established:

- Specific conditions for Personal Physicians to refer to physiotherapy services only in cases where the diagnosis is back pain.

- Maximum referral rate from Orthopedic Physicians to physiotherapy services per month. This rate is for physician-issued referrals, not physician-approved referrals for requests for additional visits.

Therefore, the maximum referral rate per month is not expected to affect the Orthopedist's ability to refer beneficiaries who are suffering from serious health problems or following surgical procedures, as the majority of these cases receive most physical therapy services through the use of long-term referrals.
