On Tuesday 13 February 2024, a General Assembly of the members of the trade unions OIO-SEK and SIDHEKEKEK-PEO was held, in which the General Manager of the Limassol - Amathus Sewerage Board (SALA) Mr. Mr. Yannis Tsouloftas and the Director of the Limassol Water Supply Council (LWSC) Mr. Socrates Metaxas informed the staff about the progress of the Local Government Reform and the creation of the Limassol District Self-Government Organisation (LGA Limassol).

The General Assembly also invited staff members of the Councils who are not members of the two guilds.

The staff were informed about the challenges and major changes that the Local Government Reform and the establishment of the Limassol EOA from July 2024 will bring about and how it will affect them and the wider public.

Specifically, staff received a comprehensive briefing on issues such as Organisational Chart, Service Plans, Staff Regulations, Operating Regulations, Pension, Provident, and Welfare Funds, Building Facilities, Staffing of the Licensing Department, and other issues of concern to staff.

A discussion followed at the end of the meeting and staff asked various questions of the Guild representatives and the Directors of the two agencies.

According to the passed legislation on Local Government Reform, SYL and SALA will be merged on July 1, 2024 into the new Limassol District Self-Government Organization, and the staff of the two organizations will be transferred to the new organization.

The Limassol EOA will assume responsibility for drinking water, sanitation, solid waste management and development permitting throughout the Limassol District.
