On the margins of the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of the Council of Europe, in Dublin, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Ms. Anita Demetriou held separate meetings with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Mr. Alen Simonyan, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ms Urška Klakočar Zupančič, the Speaker of the National Assembly of France, Ms Yaël Braun-Pivet and the Speaker of the Parliament of Israel (Knesset), Mr Amir Ohana.
During the meeting with the Speaker of the French National Assembly Mrs. Yaël Braun-Pivet, the excellent level of French-Cypriot relations and the common will for their further upgrading, especially at the parliamentary level, were reaffirmed. The President expressed her thanks for the long-standing and consistent support that France, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and as a leading country of the European Union, has given to the Cyprus cause. Ms. Braun-Pivet underlined that France will remain a loyal and principled ally of Cyprus and will provide all possible support to efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem. In this regard, it was noted the added value that parliamentary diplomacy adds to the goals and aspirations of the two countries, in particular through frequent contacts and exchanges. Views were also exchanged on the empowerment of women and increasing their representation in political life. THE CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS IN UKRAINE AND NAGORNO-KARABAKH WERE DISCUSSED IN PARTICULAR AND THE NEED FOR NATIONAL PARLIAMENTS TO SUPPORT THE AFFECTED PEOPLE IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY, BASED ON INTERNATIONAL LAW AND THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS WAS STRESSED.

The commitment to international legitimacy and the defence of international law in dealing with conflicts was underlined. Mrs Demetriou expressed her full solidarity with the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh and the friendly Armenian people.
During the meeting with the Speaker of the Israeli Parliament, Mr Amir Ohana, the excellent level of relations and cooperation between the two countries in key areas of mutual interest was underlined. The importance of further boosting the trilateral cooperation between Cyprus, Greece and Israel in the parliamentary framework was also stressed. On the Israeli side, the President of the Knesset, Mr. Amir Ohana said that Israel attaches great importance to its relations with Cyprus, as a neighbouring friendly country.
Finally, the Speaker met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Ms. Marija Pejčinović Burić. Ms Demetriou assured of the commitment of the House of Representatives to the principles and values of the Council of Europe and the readiness of the House to promote the Conclusions of the Reykjavik Summit. Ms Demetriou stressed that all Member States must respect their treaty obligations, underlining that the logic of two measures and two stations harms the very principles and credibility of the Organisation. In this regard, the President of the Parliament expressed satisfaction with the recent decision of the Committee of Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe to continue the monitoring of the 4th Cyprus v. Turkey case, stressing that the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights must be applied by all Member States, without exception.
