The Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, as part of the awareness campaign for the protection of bees and other pollinators, and in view of the flowering of fruit trees and the transfer of bees close to trees or other crops, wishes to inform growers that any spraying of bee-toxic preparations during the flowering stage should be avoided.

Compliance with the Rational Use of Agricultural Products Regulations 2012 as well as the Plant Protection Products Decree 2018 (National Action Plan) is an obligation of all growers. It is imperative to carefully read the label of the plant protection product before applying it. Failure to follow the instructions on the label of any formulation is an offence under the Plant Protection Products Act 2011.

The Department of Agriculture reminds that beekeepers are required to display their full name, address and/or telephone number (optional) at each apiary. Also, the back of each hive must be appropriately marked as prescribed by the Department of Agriculture for easy identification and identification of the owner.

In cases where it is necessary to remove the apiary from the area for any reason, the relevant District Agricultural Office should be informed immediately, indicating the relevant markings on the hives or apiary, in order to identify the owner of the hives.
