Welcomes today's position of the Supreme Court on the reform of the judiciary and calls on the Parliament to proceed with the adoption of the reform measures bills immediately
I welcome the Supreme Court's statement in relation to the reform of the judiciary made at today's meeting chaired by the President of the Republic, which states that as a result of the agreement reached on the establishment of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Advisory Council for the appointment of judges, the constitutional reservations arising from the fundamental Article 157 of the Constitution no longer exist and that any, occasional positions taken by members of the Supreme Court on the separation of the tertiary courts (though respected), constitute personal views as to the necessity of separation, and not positions as to the constitutional dimension of the matter.
I fully agree with the Supreme Court's conclusion that the intended reform is an absolute necessity and any delay in passing it will lead to a collapse of the judiciary, with dire consequences for the Rule of Law.
All stakeholders have now come to a conclusion. It is now up to the House of Representatives, within its powers, to proceed to pass the reform bills immediately.
