The Council of Ministers today decided to announce the announcement of the Tuition and Feeding Subsidy Scheme for children up to four (4) years old for the school year 2024-2025, which is essentially a continuation of the existing scheme, which subsidizes up to 80% of the cost of tuition fees for kindergartens or nurseries.
Beneficiaries of the Plan, following a decision by the Christodoulides Government in 2023, are families approved for Child Benefit for the year in which the school year begins.
The Council of Ministers also approved the proposal of the Ministry of Social Welfare for a new Tuition and Feeding Subsidy Scheme for Children aged four (4) years to four (4) years and six (6) months for the year 2024-2025, which will act as a "bridge" until the implementation of the full plan, provided for in the Recovery and Resilience Plan for compulsory pre-school education.
The same criteria apply to the New Plan as the Tuition and Feeding Subsidy Plan for Children up to four (4) years of age.
For both Schemes, the monthly amount of the allowance is up to 80% of the tuition fees, with a maximum of 350 euros per month for each child, based on family income, age of the child, family composition and school hours.
Up to 25,000 children up to 4.5 years of age will be able to benefit from the Schemes, with a total budget of 20 million euros.
These Schemes aim to strengthen families, reconcile family and working life and give pre-school children access to quality inclusive pre-school education and care.
The broadening of the income criteria, decided last year, and this year's age expansion, decided today by the Cabinet, increases the potential beneficiaries of the Plan from about 15,000 to 25.000 or so, thereby strengthening even more families, as well as social justice more broadly.
