[PIO] Announcements of the Department of Public Works for works in the Districts of Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos

1. Cleaning works within the central island in Nicosia District

The Nicosia District Engineer's Office, Department of Public Works, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that during the period 3/6/2024-6/6/2024, between the hours of 6:00-18:

(a) On the A1 Nicosia-Lemesos motorway, from the exit of Pera Chorio Nissou to the exit of Larnaca and

(b) on the A2 Nicosia-Larnaca motorway, from Pera Chorio Nissou and for a distance of 2km from Pera Chorio Nissou to the exit of Larnaca.

During the execution of the cleaning works, the motorway will remain open to traffic as the works will be carried out within the central island. Waste collection and removal will take place during the same period, between the hours of 21:00 and 2:00 the following day, when the express lane will be closed and traffic will be directed to the adjacent lanes.

2. Replacement works of damaged parapets in Paphos District

The Paphos District Engineer's Office, Public Works Department, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that from Thursday, 30/5/2024 until Thursday, 4/6/2024 except weekends, from 7:00 to 15:00, replacement works will be carried out to replace damaged parapets on the embankments of the Paphos-Lemesos motorway (A6) in both directions.

During the execution of the works, the motorway embankment will be partially closed for a length of approximately 200m and traffic will continue unhindered.

3. The Department of Public Works, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that since 25/3/2024 the replacement of obsolete signalling equipment by a private company at 47 light-controlled intersections and 31 pedestrian crossings of Pelican type in the Limassol and Paphos area has started, with a new type of Extra Low Voltage (ELV) with LED lamps, a Pedestrian Countdown system and a touch-type pedestrian demand system.

The equipment replacement work at each location will be completed within one day except for contingency and during the work the light-controlled intersections and pedestrian crossings will remain out of service. If necessary, temporary traffic lights will be installed, which may change the existing operation of the traffic lights until the end of the work. Some right-hand lanes may also be temporarily removed for safety reasons.

The Department of Public Works apologizes for the inevitable inconvenience that will be caused and invites the public to show the necessary understanding and comply with the temporary road signs.
