[PIO] Announcement of the TEE regarding conviction and penalties for violations of the legislation on safety and health at work imposed by the

The Labour Inspection Department of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance has promoted the prosecution of S.E. SAKHI TRADING CO LTD, which violated the provisions of the legislation on occupational safety and health issues.

As a result of the prosecution, the Nicosia District Court sentenced S.E. SAKHI TRADING CO LTD. SAKHI TRADING CO LTD, which is engaged, inter alia, in the storage of vehicle parts and old vehicles for parts, to a total fine of €12,000 for the following breaches of the Occupational Safety and Health Management Act, which caused serious injury to a person at work and endangered its employees and other persons:

(a) Failure to implement an appropriate safety system or risk management system by making such arrangements appropriate to the nature of the activities and size of the business, and to monitor and review the preventive and protective measures to be taken for the safety and health of its employees and other persons, resulting in its employee being seriously injured by a forklift truck and becoming a paraplegic.

(b) Failure to have available to her a written assessment of the risks to the safety and health of her employees and other persons, based on which preventive and protective measures to address the risks were determined.
