The Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (SRCC) announces that today, 7 December 2023 at 07:20, it activated the National Search and Rescue Plan (NRP) NEARCHOS in order to airlift a 57-year-old man, a member of the crew of the Maltese-flagged cargo ship "MGD JOY".
The vessel was sailing 110 nautical miles south-west of Cyprus within the E-W area of responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus (FIR Nicosia) and a helicopter of the 460th Search and Rescue Squadron of the Air Force Command of the General Air Command was mobilised to carry out the air evacuation, with a specialised ambulance service nurse.
The person was safely delivered at 10:15 am to Paphos General Hospital for further treatment.
