The President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Christodoulides will leave on Sunday, March 17, for Cairo, Egypt, where he will participate in a Summit together with the President of the European Commission, the Prime Ministers of Greece, Italy, Belgium, the Chancellor of Austria and the President of Egypt Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The Summit will launch the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership between the European Union (EU) and Egypt, with the signing of a Joint Declaration by the President of the European Commission and the President of Egypt.
This Strategic Partnership covers a total of six pillars covering political relations, economic stability, trade and investment, migration and mobility, security and demography, and human capital.
In particular, after their arrival in Cairo, the EU leaders will go to the Presidential Palace, where they will have separate meetings with the President of Egypt.
A Joint Meeting of the seven Heads of State or Government will follow, followed by extended talks between the delegations of the participating countries.
Later, the Joint Declaration on the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership will be signed, after which the seven leaders will make statements to the media.
In the evening, President El-Sisi will host a dinner in honour of the six European leaders.
The participation of the Republic of Cyprus in the Summit highlights once again the geostrategic role of Cyprus in the region, as the closest member state to the EU, but also a member state that has long maintained excellent relations with all neighbouring states.
The President of the Republic, who will be accompanied in Cairo by the Government Spokesman Mr. Constantinos Letibiotis and the Head of the Diplomatic Office of the President Mr. Doros Venezis, will return to Cyprus late in the evening of 17 March.
