During today's meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Interior, the social policy of the Ministry of Social Welfare in the framework of the Recovery and Resilience Plan was analysed.
Specifically, the planning that started in 2021 within the Recovery and Resilience Plan to strengthen the social policy of the state, in the philosophy of modern practices applied both in European Union (EU) member states, was explained, as well as in other modern states, and concerns the creation of small family-type dwellings within the community with the aim of deinstitutionalisation, the provision of high quality personalised services and the inclusion and integration of vulnerable groups of the population into society as a whole.
Within this framework, the total funding from the European Commission and more specifically from the Recovery and Resilience Fund for the development of this social policy, which has a time horizon for completion by 2026, amounts to approximately 30 million euros and concerns small houses for long-term care of the elderly, for people with disabilities, for children under the legal care of the state, for adolescents, as well as Day Centres providing support services and the second Children's House in Limassol, which will be built in order to provide supportive services.
The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare will continue to inform all local authorities about this planning, which will be beneficial both for the local communities and for the society as a whole, but especially for the vulnerable population groups, such as children under the legal care of the state, adolescents, elderly people, people with disabilities, who will be served through it.
Regarding the policy in relation to the management of Unaccompanied Minors, which is completely independent from the design of social policy through the Recovery and Resilience Plan, the Ministry of Social Welfare has the support, financial and otherwise, of the EU and we are in consultation with the relevant European bodies, without any concrete decision having been taken so far.
It is noted that the Parliamentary Committee of the Interior invited a representative of the Deputy Ministry and the meeting was attended by the Director General of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, Mr. Yannis Nicolaides.
