In the context of supporting vulnerable stranded and resettled people and strengthening social benefits for them, the Council of Ministers approved a proposal by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Ms Marilena Evangelou, to increase the allowance for blind internees and resettled persons paid by the Social Welfare Services to blind internees and resettled persons by an amount equal to the amount they would receive as a special grant to blind persons.

The decision was deemed necessary as the Special Allowance for the Blind Law stipulates that the applicant must have been permanently resident in the areas controlled by the Republic of Cyprus for at least 12 months prior to the submission of the application, a provision which is not met by interned and resettled persons.
