As part of the implementation of the military Erasmus, the Security and Defence Academy of the Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with the Military Academy "Teresa" of Austria and with the assistance of the National Guard, under the auspices of the European Security and Defence College, organize for the 7th year the Leadership Development Programme for students and young officers of Military Academies in Cyprus.
The aim of this programme is for each participant to develop his/her skills as a leader through team/squad command and various other tests such as competitive rifle shooting, team endurance competition, orientation, tactical planning, 24-hour training exercise of Motorized Infantry Squad, etc.The training involves 14 instructors and 28 students from 13 Military Academies in 11 countries, including 10 EU Member States (Austria, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Latvia, Portugal) and Zambia. Phase 1 (21 to 25 August 2023) concerns the training of those who will be used as trainers (train the trainers), which includes, among other things, shooting with a G3A3 rifle, identification and practical training in teaching and examining leadership issues.

This training bears the seal of the Republic of Cyprus since 2015 and is part of a common European semester implemented by several European military academies in order to improve the interoperability of the armed forces of the European Union.
The Republic of Cyprus, although small in size and although it has no military schools, nevertheless actively contributes to European training for the development of a common European culture of Security and Defence. At the same time, it is at the forefront of several activities of the European Security and Defence College, under which the military Erasmus initiative is also included.
On the last day, certificates signed by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Mr. Josep Borrell to those participants who have successfully completed the training.
