The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (MARD) announces that the Advisory Committee, chaired by the Director General of the General Directorate of Agriculture and Rural Development of MARD, Mr. Andreas Grigoriou, which was established on the basis of Article 16 of the Law on the Conservation of Stocks of Feed Raw Materials and Cereals for Human Use of 2021, which proceeded to review the prevailing situation in the market of feed raw materials in Cyprus. During the meeting, the views of all stakeholders active in the sector were invited and heard. Based on the available data, it appeared that, following Russia's withdrawal from the Black Sea Agreement, there is a shortage of maize for feed use, which is expected to pass around the end of this month.
The Advisory Committee, taking into account the potential impact on animal productivity, particularly ruminant productivity, from the substitution of maize with other cereals available on the market, made a recommendation to the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Petros Xenophontos, for the disposal of maize, up to a maximum of 7.The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, taking into account the recommendation of the Advisory Committee and on the basis of the powers granted to him by the relevant legislation, has decided to issue a Decree for placing on the market up to 30% (up to a maximum of 7.000 metric tons) of maize stocks, per natural or legal person, which has concluded a written contract for the management of feed raw material stocks with the competent authority (list below), at the current replacement price. The period of disposal of maize stocks shall start from today and end on 31 August 2023.
Managers shall be obliged to replenish the stocks to be disposed of by 30/9/2023 at the latest.
