The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that in view of the prolonged drought, which resulted in the reduction of water reserves in dams, the strict application of the Water Conservation (Special Measures) Law (L. 1/1991), under which the use of mud for washing pavements or roads or verandas or railings or motor vehicles is prohibited.
Any person who contravenes the Act is guilty of a criminal offence and on conviction is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, or a fine not exceeding €513, or both. Further, according to the Act, an out-of-court settlement is provided for with the imposition of a fine of €51.
The public is urged to conserve water and avoid in any way the unnecessary use and waste of water. Every drop of water counts!
