The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (MARD), on the occasion of International Women's Day, announces four measures to encourage female entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector, through the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy 2023-2027 and its interventions:

1. Under the LEADER measure, following the practice of the previous programming period, additional credits are awarded for female participation in actions such as agrotourism, cottage industry and services, and more generally for off-farm employment investment actions. 2. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development intensifies its partnerships to hold specialized workshops in 2024 on women's entrepreneurship in the countryside, through tools developed with partnerships from across Europe. 3. The manufacturing measure includes, as eligible actions, investments in cottage industry. 4. In the measure of training and education of producers in 2024, a specific theme is launched for the development of women's cooperatives and enterprises in the countryside, with visits to operators recognised as good examples implementing best practices.

In the same context, the Ministry ensures the non-discriminatory provision of funding opportunities to all applicants and applicants on the basis of gender, underlining its commitment to the implementation and promotion of gender equality and the prevention of any form of discrimination. Gender mainstreaming in its activities and ensuring equal opportunities between men and women is its highest priority, in line with its governance programme.

Stressing its commitment to strengthening women's participation in every aspect of its areas of competence, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment also stresses that gender equality is not a women's issue but a human issue and a fundamental democratic right, in the context of shared, gender-independent, gender-responsive decision-making.
