[PIO] Announcement of the Labour Inspection Department regarding convictions and penalties for violations of the Occupational Safety and Health

The Labour Inspection Department of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance promoted the criminal prosecution of an employer who violated the provisions of the Legislation on Occupational Safety and Health.

As a result of this prosecution, the Larnaca District Court sentenced.000 for the following infringements of the Minimum Safety and Health Standards (Use of Work Equipment at Work) Regulations, which caused fatal injury to one of its employees and endangered its employees:

(a) Failure to carry out, under the supervision of a competent person, a lifting of her employee using work equipment that was not designed for lifting persons, as a result of which during the lifting of the cage in which her employee was standing, and which was being lifted using a forklift truck, the door of the cage opened and he fell from the cage onto a concrete warehouse floor from a height of 3.20m and was fatally injured.

(b) Failure to provide her employees with work equipment provided for the lifting of employees, as a result of which, during the lifting of the cage in which her employee was standing, and who was being lifted using a forklift, the cage door opened and he fell from the cage onto a concrete warehouse floor from a height of 3.20m and was fatally injured.

(c) Failure to take the necessary measures to ensure that the lifting of its employees was only permitted with work equipment provided for that purpose.
