The Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, in the context of the effort to combat undeclared work and in the context of monitoring compliance with basic labour legislation, informs that during the month of July 2023 targeted inspections were carried out on a nationwide basis in hotel units.
[*]Inspections were carried out in 90 establishments, where 90 employers were identified. The total number of employees identified was 1424 (620 men and 804 women). In detail, 554 were Greek Cypriots, 520 European Union citizens, 316 third country foreigners and 34 Turkish Cypriots. [*]It was found that 43 workers were undeclared to the Social Insurance Fund and 20 notices of violation and 19 acts imposing a fine of €49,000 were issued.
The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness among all those employed in these economic activities of the consequences of undeclared work and non-compliance with the provisions of the relevant legislation.
It should be noted that according to the provisions of the relevant legislation, if an undeclared person is detected in the Social Security Fund, an administrative fine of €500 multiplied by 7 months is issued, unless it is proven by the employer that the period of violation was shorter. If it is proven that the period of violation was longer, the fine is multiplied by the actual months.
It is recalled that the nationwide telephone line 77778577 accepts anonymous/anonymous complaints/information in connection with undeclared work or violation of the terms of employment.
