The Commission of the Independent Social Support Body reminds the public that it accepts applications for financial support for first degree students, regardless of age. Financial assistance is for university tuition fees or student rent. The application process will end on 28 November 2023.
The application must be submitted electronically, ONLY through the website of the Institution.
The applicant must be the student and the application must be accompanied by all necessary certificates. Payments for approved students are made directly to the University Institutions - for tuition fees - or directly to the owners of the accommodation - for rent - except in rare cases when necessary.
For the academic year 2023-2024 a new category of children is introduced, to whom scholarships will be granted, without checking the income or property of their families. A lump sum will now be given in proportion to any sponsorship paid by other institutions.
The following groups of students are excluded from the obligation to meet the criteria.
- Children of victims of the 2011 Mari blast, the Helios plane crash of 14/08/2005 and those who were killed in the line of duty
- Children of trapped persons.
- Children of trapped persons.
- Children who were under the care of the Director of Social Welfare Services until they came of age.
- For single parents with four or more children.
- For large families with five or more dependent children.
- For large families with five or more dependent children.
The aim for 2023-2024 is to raise more than two million euros to help over 1,300 students, three times the number of sponsorships granted in the past. It is recalled that those who wish to contribute to the Body can do so by bank transfer or through the JCC from the website.
The Independent Social Support Body was established in 2015, is subject to law and is financially managed by the Auditor General of the State. It relies exclusively on contributions from natural and legal persons and does not burden the state budget. Moreover, the contributions/donations from which the resources of the Institution are derived are not subject to taxation. To date, it has made a decisive contribution, through subsidies for tuition fees or rent, so that hundreds of students from families facing serious financial and social problems were finally able to complete their studies instead of abandoning them. The body is chaired by the First Lady, Mrs. Philippa Karsera Christodoulides.
