With a view to enriching and upgrading the quality of its services, the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) proceeded in 2023 with the implementation of actions that contributed to the strengthening and reinforcement of the General Health System (GHS).

Focusing on the beneficiary and his/her needs, the Agency worked at a steady pace to meet the high demands to shield, improve and effectively address the challenges of the Health System. Thus, it made changes, tightened controls and introduced new services so that the GHS could take positive steps forward.

The large volume of quality services offered to beneficiaries is once again valued with a positive sign for another year.

In particular, from the beginning of 2023 until the end of December:

  1. 810,077 beneficiaries visited Personal Physicians.

    1. 810,077 beneficiaries visited Personal Physicians.
    2. 627,173 beneficiaries have visited Specialists .
    3. 700,373 beneficiaries have received their medications through the System.
    4. 500,948 beneficiaries have had laboratory tests.
    5. 66,554 beneficiaries have undergone surgery through the System.
    6. 120,460 beneficiaries have received inpatient care services.

At the same time, the Health Insurance Agency introduced quality criteria in the way hospitals are paid, promoting healthy competition and upgrading the quality of services. It also strengthened the position of beneficiaries in the GHS by introducing qualitative evaluation of nursing homes through questionnaires. The Agency continues its efforts to improve the quality of services provided through the process of adapting and implementing guidelines in cooperation with all scientific bodies.

The Agency also succeeded in expanding the services of the GHS through the inclusion of two new inpatient units, two Accident and Emergency Departments, the provision of services by podiatrists, the addition of another provider of home palliative care services, the expansion of rehabilitation services for cardiothoracic surgery and the upgrading of home general nursing and speech pathology services.

Aware of its duty, both to existing beneficiaries and future generations, the Health Insurance Agency will continue to work to further improve and upgrade the General Health System, always in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, to achieve the common goal: Ensuring the right of every beneficiary to have equal and unhindered access to quality health services.
