[PIO] Announcement of the General Staff on the Celebration of Saint Nicholas, Patron Saint of the Navy

The official celebration of Saint Nicholas, Patron Saint of the Navy, took place today at the Evangelos Florakis Naval Base in Mari.

The celebration was attended by the Deputy Minister of Shipping Mrs Marina Hadjimanoli, the Chief of the National Guard Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas, the Ambassador of Greece Mr Ioannis Papameletiou, Members of Parliament, the hierarchy of the General Staff and delegations of officers. Also present were representatives of state services and local authorities, retired officers, defence attachés and representatives of friendly countries, as well as military delegations of countries hosted in National Guard (NF) facilities.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, a wreath was laid at sea by the Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Chief of Staff in honour of the fallen. Subsequently, the attendees visited the Naval Command's Warships and the Port - Naval Police that were sailing within the Naval Base as well as a static exhibition where weapons systems and capabilities of the Naval Command were presented. The celebration was also attended by the Greek Navy frigate Navarino, which was anchored at the port approaches.
