The General Accounting Office of the Republic, as the implementing agency of the OIKIA Plan, announces that it has completed its implementation within the revised timetable set by the European Commission, i.e. by 31 May 2024.

With the effective cooperation of the Ministries of Finance, and Labour and Social Insurance, the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, the Association of Cyprus Banks, Credit Institutions and other partners, in order to join the Project, the assessment of the eligibility criteria of 577 applications, concerning 717 lending contracts, has been carried out.

Priority had been given to applications submitted by recipients of public assistance, including the Minimum Guaranteed Income (MGA), where the relevant information was available at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Applications were immediately assessed and approved by the end of 2023.

With the completion of the assessment by the General Accounting Office, the results have been sent to the Housing Finance Agency as the only Credit Institution that has granted the loans covered by the Plan to implement the solutions, i.e. either by restructuring the remaining principal of the loan under a feasible and viable solution, or by full and immediate repayment of the remaining principal.

Based on the results of the assessment, the total amount corresponding to the Republic of Cyprus for write-off, with the implementation of the above solutions on the eligible loans covered by the Plan, is expected to be up to EUR 17.1 million.

It is clarified that, for an additional number of 224 applications, involving 313 loan agreements, which were submitted and assessed by the Housing Finance Agency as not requiring a feasible and viable solution, the GAO has not deemed it appropriate to proceed with the review of their eligibility in full compliance with the provisions of the Plan.
