The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that the management of the fire that started on Saturday 09/09/2023 at 13:28 near the Limassol State Forest, in an area of Akruda Community, is progressing satisfactorily.
In the framework of the activation of the HFAISTOS Plan, the Ministerial Crisis Management Group was convened at 7:30 am at the ZION Coordination Centre in Larnaca. The Ministers of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Defence, Transport, Communications and Works, as well as the Directors General of the Ministries of Agriculture, Interior and Justice, the Chief of the National Guard and the Deputy Chief of Police, the Commander of the Civil Defence and all supporting services taking part in the fire fighting took part.
The Ministerial Group, after being informed of the overnight extinguishing operations and taking into account the prevailing situation, as well as the expected arrival of the two aircraft from Jordan, decided not to activate the rescEU mechanism and therefore the arrival of the two Canadair aircraft, which were on standby to be dispatched from Italy, was not deemed necessary.
Ground and air efforts are continuing with the aim of bringing the fire under control as soon as possible.
