[PIO] Announcement of the Forestry Department for the events on the occasion of the Tree Week

The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces the start of the Tree Week, which for 2023 is set for the period 26 November - 2 December. During the Week of the Tree, various activities and events are planned in all provinces.

The start of the Week of the Tree will be marked with the official "Celebration of the Tree" which will take place next Sunday, 26 November at 11:00 in the morning, in the hall of the Primary School of Kokkinotrimithia B', Platonos 24, 2660 Kokkinotrimithia.

The consecration of the event will be performed by His Eminence Metropolitan of Kyrenia, Most Reverend Archbishop of Lapithos and Karavas Mr. Chrysostomos, while the main speaker will be the Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Petros Xenophontos. This will be followed by an artistic programme by the school's students, members of the Cyprus Scouts and the Cyprus Guides Corps. The event will conclude with a tree planting in the school grounds.

The Forestry Department will provide the public with free saplings at the venue of the event (Kokkinotrimithia Primary School), as well as at the following locations in Nicosia, on Sunday 26 November, from 10:00 in the morning and for approximately one hour:

1. Eleftherias Square (at the opening of Ledra and Onasagorou sidewalks)
2. Makarios Avenue (KTIMACO parking lot - junction of Zina Kanthera and Theofanous Theodotou streets),
3. Athalassa National Forest Park (south-western entrance and Agios Georgios Park),
4. Acadamia National Forest Park (near the refreshment centre) and
5. Faneromeni Square.

Tree Week events will also take place in the other districts as follows:

1. Limassol District: Friday 1 December 2023, 09:30 in the morning at Ipsona Primary School A'.

1. Larnaca and Famagusta District: Friday 1 December, 10:00 in the morning at Liopetriou Primary School.

1. Paphos District: Friday 26 January 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Stroumpiou Primary School.

On the days when the events will take place in the other districts, the Forestry Department will provide the public with free saplings at the following locations as below:

1. 1. Limassol District: Friday 1December 2023, 09:30 in the morning
      1. At the Ipsona A' Primary School, where the event will take place,
      2. Administrative Building Square, Aneksartisia Street,
      3. Polemidia National Forest Park (parking lot opposite the Forestry Department offices),
      4. Forest of Limassol (Near the Swimming Pool),
      5. My Mall in Zakaki.
   1. 1. Larnaca and Famagusta District: Friday 1December 2023, 10:00 in the morning
         1. At Liopetriou B Primary School, where the event will take place,
         2. Finikoudes Beach,
         3. Tapa Hana Park (on Piale Pasha Avenue),
         4. Kavo Greco Environmental Information Centre.

            1. At the Stroubiou Primary School, where the event will take place,
            2. At the "Pervola" parking lot,
            3. At the Town Hall Square in Paphos,
            4. At the central square in Polis Chrysochous.

         Finally, as part of the celebrations of the Week of the Tree, a voluntary blood donation by the staff of the Forestry Department will take place on 28 and 29 December 2023 at 08:00 in the morning, at the Blood Bank of the Engomi Health Centre.
