The Ethics and Sports Protection Commission announces that after 17 months of intense, continuous work and exhaustive investigation, the 3rd finding concerning issues and individuals involved in shooting and shooting ranges has been received on 09/01/2024.

All three findings show that the situation is disappointing. Investigating Officers have identified 31 individuals who may have committed criminal offences. It was found that there are groups of individuals operating in a manner that is contrary to Law 180(I)/2017 and it was also found that several of the potential offences that have been identified were done due to lack of control by the Competent Authorities.

This is established through the findings and supporting material, which is in excess of 5.500 pages and in essence it is in a way the history of shooting in Cyprus from a different perspective.

The Commission will hand over to the Honourable Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus the findings and supporting material at a date and time to be agreed.

The Commission will hand over to the Honourable Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus the findings and supporting material at a date and time to be agreed.

The Commission, in view of the seriousness and urgency of the issues arising from the findings, decided that if and when the Honourable Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus agrees in this direction, to give a summary of the findings (without naming names) to the President of the Cyprus Sports Organisation (CSO), so that he can take immediate corrective action, particularly with regard to sponsorship and the use of the shooting ranges.

In the context of the duties of the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee to prevent but also to instil a spirit of sportsmanship and integrity in sport and its obligation to morally reward athletes who observe all this and have made it a way of life, has an obligation to mention 4 young shooters whom we have identified, who are struggling on their own with the support of virtually only their families to excel, to lift up the sport and Athletic Cyprus, to serve the sport they have chosen and seem to love it very much, hence the great personal sacrifices they make.

We are referring to four young shooters in the sport of skeet. Because they are minors the Commission will not release their names because it has not yet obtained written consent from their parents. When it does, it will announce them.

The Ethics and Sport Protection Committee for the four teenagers will send a separate letter to the President of the COA requesting that he help these teenagers as is his obligation, so that they can devote themselves to their sport without any problems.
