[PIO] Announcement of the Environment Department regarding Directive 2019/904/EU "The Waste Law of 2011-2022"

Attached plastic lids and caps to beverage containers up to 3 litres

The Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment informs that, in accordance with the provisions of Article 6 of Directive 2019/904/EU, which has been transposed into national law through the Waste Law from 3 July 2024, single-use plastic products, listed in Part C of the Annex to the Directive and bearing lids and caps made of plastic material, may be placed on the market only if the lids and caps remain attached to the containers during the intended use stage of the product, based on the relevant CYS EN 17665 standard:2022 +A1:2023. For the purposes of Article 6, metal lids or caps with plastic gaskets are not considered to be made of plastic.

This requirement applies to beverage containers (containing products in liquid form that are consumed by drinking, for example: milk, water, wine, beer, beer, liquid soft drinks, juices, nectars, instant drinks, etc.).etc.) with a capacity of up to three litres, i.e. containers used for liquids such as bottles for drinks, including their lids and caps, and composite beverage containers, including their lids and caps. Excludes:

[A](a) Glass or metal beverage containers that have plastic lids and caps, and

Beverage containers intended and used for food in liquid form for specific medical purposes.

Therefore, from 3 July 2024 onwards, the above provision shall apply.

Any stocks that do not comply with the legislation will have to be withdrawn from the market before the above date.
