Waste Prevention Week is an initiative that aims to promote, at European level, the implementation of public awareness actions on sustainable resource use and waste management (reduction, reuse, recycling), culminating in the penultimate week of November.

In Cyprus, the coordinator for the Waste Prevention Week is the Environment Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment. For 2023, the week 18 November - 26 November 2023 has been set, with this year's theme being "Packaging".

In this context, all stakeholders, such as Local Authorities, collective waste management systems, educational institutions, private companies, organised groups and non-governmental organisations, as well as the general public, are encouraged to actively engage in actions related to waste reduction, reuse and recycling, as well as the promotion of circular economy principles and rational waste management according to the hierarchy.

The deadline for submitting actions is 12 November 2023, via the website www.ewwr.eu following its instructions. On the above electronic platform, stakeholders can refer to useful information about the Waste Prevention Week and how to submit actions, to available training tools and other useful material that can be used in the actions, to information about actions previously submitted or planned for this week, where they can get ideas.

Last year during the European Week for Waste Prevention 16,129 actions were carried out in 36 countries.
