Based on the Decision of the Council of Ministers approved on 03/01/2024, it is announced that the powers and responsibilities of the Digital Security Authority have been defined in relation to the implementation of the provisions of the European Regulation 2019/881 Cybersecurity Act, for the establishment of the National Cybersecurity Certification Authority in the Republic of Cyprus.
The mission of the National Cybersecurity Certification Authority is to promote the institution of cybersecurity certification for products and services in the field of information technology and communications. It aims to develop the relevant capabilities of the Republic of Cyprus in order to make Cyprus a regional certification centre, with all the consequent benefits to the economy of our country. This structure will contribute, together with other activities and structures, to making Cyprus a regional centre for cybersecurity services. The new structure will be able to certify European and third country products and services available on the European market.
The National Cybersecurity Certification Authority will have, inter alia, the following responsibilities:
- Licensing and supervision of conformity assessment bodies.
- Market surveillance of certified products and manufacturers.
- Co-operation with relevant bodies in Cyprus and abroad.
- Representation of the Republic of Cyprus in the relevant European bodies.
The National Cybersecurity Certification Authority aims at close cooperation with all stakeholders for the benefit of strengthening cybersecurity in the Republic of Cyprus and in Europe at large.
