A Constable serving in the Prisons Department was suspended today for the purposes of investigating serious disciplinary misconduct to which he appears to have been guilty.
The goal of the Department of Corrections is to maintain order, discipline and promote Justice within our Correctional System by ensuring that each staff member operates within the principles of ethics as well as legality.
Compliance with Regulations and maintaining high standards of professionalism are and remain primary goals of the Department. To this end, measures aimed at modernising the Prisons and, in particular, at reforming the prisoners are being implemented. The support and development of Prison staff is also a priority.
As can be seen from the results of the last few months, our efforts are already beginning to bear fruit, as we are seeing significant improvements in the daily operation of the Prisons. Improvements can also be seen in the behaviour and development of both prisoners and staff, the majority of whom appear to be very responsive.
The Prison Department management is accountable to the community and will continue to work tirelessly to achieve the goals it has set. We will further intensify our efforts to provide a safe and supportive environment for both inmates and staff, taking every measure that moves in that direction.
