We have been informed by the media that the "Equality" guild has called the Postal Distributors - its members to strike action until Friday 14 December 2023.
The Department apologises to the public for the inconvenience caused by this decision, and particularly to its young friends who are awaiting Santa's replies to the letters they have sent him. We will make every effort to ensure that these letters are not delayed.
Further, we would like to point out the following. [*]This decision was not communicated to the Department as required by the labour statutes. The Department was informed of the strike by the media. [*]The total number of Postal Distributors in the Department is 298 and includes 207 colleagues performing home delivery and 91 others performing other duties. Of the total of 298 Mail Handlers, 90 colleagues are on strike. [*]The Department has never refused dialogue and discussion of requests falling within its remit, but always within the established institutional framework and procedures. [*]All possible measures will be taken to reduce the inconvenience caused to the public, especially during this festive period.
