The 2023 Annual Report of the European Standards Organisations CEN and CENELEC has been published, with a fully digital design.
2023 was an important year for both Organisations and for European Standardisation. It marked the 30th anniversary of the Single Market, a key pillar of European cooperation. Standards ensure that products are interoperable and meet quality and safety levels for consumers across Europe, building confidence in the Single Market.
The strategic importance of standards was further highlighted in January 2023 with the recommendation of the High-Level Forum, which provides a platform for setting priorities in standardisation and discussing ways to improve the European standardisation process.
In this context, CEN and CENELEC reaffirmed their commitment to creating a sustainable, competitive and inclusive European Standardisation System.
The Annual Report presents the main points that marked a very intense and strategic year for the two organisations in 2023. The fully digital format allows for an accessible experience and reflects CEN and CENELEC's commitment to the green and digital transition.
Some of the key points that highlight the hard work of the Organisations include:
- supporting the green transition of European industry and promoting the development of new clean technologies and sustainable energy sources,
- actively contributing to Europe's digital transition with ICT standards at the core of the digital transformation of all sectors of the economy,
- continuing to implement the joint Strategy 2030 CEN and CENELEC, and
- the continuation of the efforts of all national standardisation bodies to make the standardisation system more inclusive and open to the world, to better respond to the needs of industry and civil society.
Recognising these and many other successes, credit is given to the efforts of the national standardisation bodies, CEN & CENELEC members, partners, stakeholders across Europe. They are a good example of the strength of the European Standardisation System, allowing CEN and CENELEC to look to the future with optimism.
