Regarding a matter that has been in the public domain and related to the presentation of the Special Report of the Audit Service for the Department of Taxation for the year 2021 on Thursday, September 7, 2023, before the Parliamentary Committee for the Monitoring of Public Expenditure Development Plans and Control, with the reference that "a certain taxpayer, [SIC. REFERRING TO A PERSON IN A POSITION OF AUTHORITY IN THE CYPRUS PORTS AUTHORITY], there was a sum of money amounting to €1.15 million which appears to have far exceeded his salary and was not declared to the Department of Taxation... [WITH] this particular case having been referred to the Attorney General for investigation in relation to abuse of power and other criminal offences [...] and following investigation of the case the said taxpayer agreed to pay taxes, plus a 10% penalty, on additional income of EUR 707,000 for the purpose of settling the offence", this Administration and the management of the Cyprus Port Authority states the following. The relevant reports as set out above, which largely capture the essence of what was reported and/or presented at the relevant Parliamentary Committee meeting, are not a novel issue, but an issue which, as rightly stated, was dealt with by the competent authorities some 10 years ago and concluded in the manner reported.

2. In relation to the immediately preceding one, the matter has not since been dealt with by the Cyprus Ports Authority, since there has been a relevant settlement outside the scope of the Authority's competence.

3. It is emphasised that, for the purposes of a full and holistic statement of the facts, the matter in question does not involve a person in office at the Cyprus Ports Authority, either in terms of management or in terms of the Directorate.

4. The present Management and the Directorate of the Cyprus Ports Authority apply to the fullest extent the principles of good administration on the basis of the triptych of openness, transparency and legality which is faithfully applied and delineates all axes of action and operation of our Organization, while the internal audit service of the Authority follows the most modern standards and control methods.

5. The Cyprus Ports Authority remains at the disposal of any institution wishing further information on the above.
