[PIO] Announcement of the Cyprus Ports Authority for the promotion and exploitation of the Lighthouse of Pervolias

Their vision for the development of the historic Lighthouse of Pervolias was presented to the President of the Cyprus Ports Authority, the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company, the CMMI-Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute Centre of Excellence and the Pervolias Community Council, at a meeting held yesterday.

The Lighthouse in Pervolia has remained unused and neglected for some years. With the proposed design, the aforementioned bodies believe that the Lighthouse will achieve the immediate emergence of the Lighthouse as a meeting point for the educational and research community as well as a visitor attraction. At the same time, its interaction with the marine element is emphasized in a modern way and means.

The President of the Cyprus Ports Authority, Dr. Antonis Stylianou, expressed his sincere thanks to the President of the Larnaca ETAP, the President of the C.C.C., the President of the Larnaca Port Authority and the President of the Larnaca Port Authority. President of Larnaca for the initiative and the very interesting proposal, which will contribute to the promotion of the monument itself and will offer multifaceted benefits, especially in the promotion of maritime literacy. He stressed that the project is fully in line with the broader objective of blue development.

The need for close cooperation with the Ports Authority for the implementation of the project was stressed by the President of the Larnaca ETAP, Mr. Dinos Lefkaritis, who noted that "this proposal, in the way it has been formulated, is for the benefit of the local community, tourism and the research community".

The President of the Pervolia Community Council Mr. Kostas Tiggis stated that "the Lighthouse is a historic landmark for the area, which with the adjacent coastal walkway project, as well as other planned projects, if properly exploited, will bring other development prospects."

The CEO of CMMI Mr. Zacharias Siokuros said that the recommendations to the President of the Port Authority were made following extensive discussions between CMMI's research staff and the Larnaca RTDB and cover a wide range of scientific fields in order to achieve a multidisciplinary approach and formulate a final proposal that is multifaceted and with a strong social impact.

The four parties agreed to conclude a Memorandum of Understanding.
